International Humanitarian Day, on 19th August, 2019
As part of International Humanitarian Day, on 19th August, 2019, Rizvi Group’s Help Yourself Foundation and Rizvi College of Education jointly conducted a beach clean up drive at Juhu, Mumbai. 35 students along with the staff members cleaned around 1.5 km stretch along the Juhu beach. Using gloves and hand tools they collected more than 50 sacks of plastics and other waste materials, all washed ashore and accumulated along the beach front. The Mumbai Corporation provided a collection truck to carry the waste, which consisted mainly of plastic, from the beach. Student teachers actively participated in the cleaning and at the end of the event they decided to continue the efforts in the cleaning process through more visits.
Outreach Programme in a Leprosy Rehabilitation centre
Student teachers participate in various community welfare activities by working with homes for aged, orphanages and special schools. They also work with NGOs to carry out awareness programmes on social issues, health issues and cleanliness of surroundings. Beautification of Railway stations, performing street plays, tutoring of children from the marginalized society and distribution of stationary and study materials for orphan children were part of community work. Student teachers conducted outreach programme in a Leprosy Rehabilitation centre.
