January 2017 The Women’s Development Cell organised an Awareness talk on the topic of Child Sexual Abuse for the standard 6th students of Rizvi Springfield High School by Rubina Raona second year student of Rizvi College of Education. This topic was prompted after the curiosity among the students when their teacher shared a story and used the word ‘MOLESTED’ which the children weren’t familiar with children of any age gap are susceptible to Molestation and therefore as teachers it’s important to educate them on this topic and let them know that if they ever face a situation like this it is wrong and they should inform an elder about it immediately. In the Awareness programme they were informed the good touch and the bad touch. Child molestation or abuse where an adult or older adolescent uses a child for sexual stimulation, the different form of sexual abuse which includes Engaging in sexual activities with a child, indecent exposure, child grooming, or using a child to produce pornography. They were taught about how these situations can occur not only in unfamiliar places but also can occur in a variety of settings, including homes, schools or workplace. One of the main form of sexual abuse is Child Marriage.
The main objectives of the awareness programme was to build knowledge about sexual abuse, help them recognize the age appropriate sexual development of a child, understand the red signals, behaviour and physical indicators of the student, educate the parents, become a trusted adult or good listener of the students so they can approach and share their problems, and address the problems with the help of NGO’s and legal authorities.
