Learning disabilities or learning disorders are an umbrella term for a wide variety of learning problems. They are neurological disorders that affect the brain’s ability to receive, process, store and respond to information. In India around 13-14% of all school children suffer from learning disorders. So all regular classroom teachers should be sensitized to suspect, and trained to screen for this disability when the child is in school. Keeping this in perspective the college organizes specialized talk, visits and training for the student teachers. Dr. Manoj Bhatawdekar and Dr. Avinash DeSousa, leading Psychiatrists of Mumbai, give specialists talks on the topic every year. Awareness training was conducted by UMEED Child Development centre which helps in identification of the disorder in children. Also, college organizes visits to centres for children with disabilities like UMEED Centre for Child Development, Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities etc. Student teachers had organized a Learning Disability Awareness Campaign in Bandra Station.
