The Language Club of RCoEd was established in 2021 with the vision of promoting effective communication skills, literary appreciation, multilingual competence, and confidence amongnovice teachers. Initially functioning as the English Language Club, the club primarily focused on enhancing English language proficiency and fostering a love for English literature through interactive and learner-centred activities.
Recognising the significance of multilingualism and inclusive language education as emphasized in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the club was renamed as the Language Club from the academic year 2024–2025. The restructured club acknowledges that all languages play a vital role in teacher development, communication, cultural understanding, and classroom effectiveness.
The Language Club aims to create a supportive and enriching platform where student- teachers can express themselves freely and confidently in different languages without fear or hesitation. The club strives to nurture communication skills essential for effective teaching and lifelong learning. Through a variety of engaging activities, the club promotes the development of the four core language skills — Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing — along with vocabulary enrichment, creativity, critical thinking, and appreciation of linguistic diversity.
The club organizes literary, creative, and skill-based activities such as elocution, storytelling, poetry recitation, debates, role plays, creative writing, book reviews, language games, multilingual presentations, theatre-based activities, and celebrations of literary icons and language days. These activities help student-teachers develop fluency, confidence, articulation, and a deeper appreciation for literature and culture across languages.
The Language Club serves as an important platform for empowering future teachers to become confident communicators, reflective learners, culturally sensitive educators, and effective facilitators in multilingual classrooms.
